I first met Susan when I was working on the school newspaper and yearbook in 1994, as she made her studio available to both the girls’ and boys’ high schools’ editorial teams.
Just before the winter holiday in 1995 she offered me a holiday job to scan and clean hundreds of technical drawings and assist with the layout of the manual they were to be used in. For the rest of the year it was my part-time job over the weekends.
As I had discussed my study plans with her, she offered me a temporary position in the studio for the eight months between me finishing high school and starting my tertiary studies.
During that time, I helped out with the design of corporate identities, yearbooks, manuals, newsletters, quarterly school newspapers, brochures, and more – setting me up with a great foundation by the time I started college.
