Cabinet Sans

This is my revival of the Perspective font, which is probably most famous as the shareware Salter font released by David Rakowski in 1991.

I futzed around in Illustrator between August 2008 and February 2009 to try and draw a clean isometric version, before putting it away for a decade and doing some further exploration in June 2019.

In September 2020 I received a medium-resolution scan of all the available glyphs and made another start of redrawing them, but ultimately felt the detail wasn’t good enough to proceed.

I finally managed to buy a copy of Circus Alphabets by Dan X. Solo around June 2021 and made high-resolution scans of all the glyphs shown in the book. This allowed me to properly redraw the base shapes, clean, extrude and shade them.

Most of the glyphs neatly fit into the same sizes, angles, and so forth, but some of them seem to have originally been drawn at slightly different sizes or extruded at a slightly different angles. I adjusted them as best I could, but there will be noticeable differences for some of the rounded glyphs.

I finished roughly two thirds of the extrusions, and then stopped – for reasons unknown to me, but probably just life happening.

I still fully intend to finish this up with at least the uppercase Latin character set, numbers and basic punctuation in the near future.
